Inzaghi wants Italy recall

Filippo Inzaghi has told skysports.com that he is desperate to win an international recall.

Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi has told skysports.com that he is desperate to win a place back in the Italy national squad.

Inzaghi was a surprise omission from Marcello Lippi's Italy squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers but he has now vowed to win a return.

The prolific hit-man is back to full fitness after a five-month spell on the sidelines through injury and has his sights firmly set on a recall.

''Lippi knows me really well since we were both at Juventus,'' Inzaghi told skysports.com.

''He knows I care a lot about a place in the Azzurri squad and I will work hard to get back to perfect fitness.''

Inzaghi also had kind words for strike partner Andrei Shevchenko, whom he believes deserves praise for his displays over the past year.

The talented Ukrainian has been nominated for Fifa's World Player of the Year and Inzaghi believes he is ready to scoop an award.

''Would he deserve this trophy or the Ballon d'Or?'' continued Inzaghi.

''In my opinion he'd deserve both and I guess everyone will agree.''
