Knee op for Konjic

Derby County fear experienced defender Mo Konjic will be out of action for six weeks.

Derby County fear experienced defender Mo Konjic will be out of action for six weeks with a knee injury.

Konjic is due to undergo an exploratory operation on Thursday to asses the extent of the damage he suffered against West Ham.

The 34-year-old picked up the knock in the 1-1 draw with The Hammers a week ago and missed last Saturday's stalemate at Sunderland.

He has returned from international duty with Bosnia-Herzegovina and will have surgery on his knee, which could keep him out for over a month.

The veteran centre half missed the start of the season through injury and Rams boss George Burley admits the outlook for Konjic is gloomy.

Burley lamented the injury but is hoping the operation will finally hand Konjic a clean bill of health following an interrupted advent to his Pride Park career.

"This is a major blow because Mo is a key defender for us," said Burley.

"The exploratory operation will tell us what the problem is but there appears to be something rubbing inside his knee.

"Hopefully, this will help to clear it up because the problem has been there for some time. Mo could be out for between four and six weeks."
