Domenech explains Anelka snub

Raymond Domenech did not call Nicolas Anelka as he has Djibril Cisse.

France coach Raymond Domenech has revealed he did not call Nicolas Anelka into his squad as he is too similar a player to Djibril Cisse.

The Manchester City striker has been in fine form in The Premiership this term, but was overlooked for Peguy Luyindula after David Trezeguet dropped out of the side.

Anelka has five goals in England's top flight this term but missed out on a recall as Domenech wanted something different in Luyindula.

"In the Anelka profile, we already have Djibril Cisse. To replace David Trezeguet, Peguy Luyindula seemed better suited for me," explained Domenech.

Trezeguet is the second player to pull out of the French squad following Ludovic Giuly's exit with injury ruling out the Barcelona star from their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Gael Givet is a doubt for Saturday's clash against Republic of Ireland at Stade de France as he could not train with the squad on Tuesday.
