Souness hints at Duff move
Graeme Souness has admitted he would be interested in signing Damien Duff.
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness has admitted he would be interested in signing Chelsea winger Damien Duff.Souness is drawing up his plans for reinforcements when the transfer window reopens in January and hinted Duff could be among his list of targets.
The Magpies chief knows all about Duff from their time together at Blackburn and he is big fan of the Republic of Ireland international.
Souness is overall happy with his squad, but he is keen to bring in two or three new faces to freshen things up.
"I have been in the job a month or so and it's obvious to me where we need to strengthen," said the Scot. "But I have not sat down with the chairman and talked money and he knows we need to strengthen.
"If I come up with a couple of names I am sure the chairman will do his best to get them to this football club.
"It is not just a case of spending the money, we need to try and get the right ones.
"We do not need wholesale changes here at this club thanks to the previous manager as it has really solid foundations.
"We have a great group of players here and in my opinion we just need two or three players to be up there challenging with the very best.
"I think everyone admires Damien (Duff). Damien is an old-fashioned winger and gets you on the edge of the seat.
"He is direct, he is honest as the day is long, he is hard-working and on top of that he is a good lad to have around, but he is someone else's player and I would rather not say anymore on that."
