Mutu denies taking cocaine

Adrian Mutu has denied taking cocaine, but admitted to taking another illegal substance.

Troubled Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu has denied taking cocaine, but admitted to taking another illegal substance.

Mutu was revealed as the player to have failed a drugs test back in September earlier this week.

The Romanian admitted on Tuesday that he did take an illegal substance with many reports suggesting the substance in question was cocaine.

However, Mutu has refuted suggestions that he tested positive for cocaine saying he took something "to make me feel good."

"I didn't take cocaine. I took something to make me feel good, I'll tell you later what it was," Mutu told Romanian television.

Mutu, who is currently back in London for a meeting with The Football Association and Chelsea, refused to make any further comment.

The 25-year-old spoke to Romanian newspaper Pro Sport earlier on Thursday and Mutu feels the whole episode has been exaggerated and that he has been let down by some people.

"Things about my situation were greatly exaggerated. What has happened to me has shown me who my real friends are," Mutu told Pro Sport.

Reports emanating from Romania claim that Mutu will stay at Chelsea with the club not paying the player during any ban he gets for the offence.
