Fadiga sees specialist

Bolton Wanderers have dispatched Khalilou Fadiga to his specialist in Belgium.

Bolton Wanderers have dispatched Khalilou Fadiga to his specialist in Belgium, after his collapse on the pitch earlier in the week.

Fadiga fell to the turf during the warm-up for Bolton's Carling Cup third round encounter with Tottenham.

He was taken to hospital but discharged after tests showed there were no abnormalities in Fadiga's condition, with the midfielder insisting he did not faint.

The Senegal ace has a history of heart problems, which ruined his chances of carving out a career in Serie A with Internazionale.

Though nothing showed up in the hospital tests, Trotters boss Sam Allardyce is keen to get to the bottom of the matter and has sent Fadiga to a doctor in Belgium.

"We have put him on a plane to his specialist in Belgium," Allardyce told the club's official website.

"He is due to have a meeting and they will decide what the situation is.

"Khalilou came out all-clear from the hospital but as a precautionary measure we have sent him to his surgeon to check him over and give us an opinion.

"It is too early to link his fainting to the heart problems. The specialist who knows the full case history can sort it out."

Allardyce lamented the setback for Fadiga, who has been looking to relaunch his career with Bolton after moving to The Reebok Stadium in September.

"There is a special inner determination of players like Khalilou, who have been told their career is over," added Allardyce.

"It's a great shame because he's been training like a madman to catch up to the rest of the squad.

"But there had been no hint of more problems."
