Cisse op successful

Djibril Cisse has had a pin inserted in his broken left leg and will be out for the season.

Djibril Cisse has had a pin inserted in his broken left leg after a successful operation - but he is definitely out for the season.

The Liverpool marksman suffered a horrendous double leg break at Blackburn on Saturday as he fracture both his tibia and fibula.

The Reds have confirmed that Sunday morning's operation was a success and his shattered leg has been repaired with a pin being inserted.

Liverpool confirmed that the 23-year-old will remain in hospital for the next few days to recover but has no chance of playing again this season.

Cisse's injury is a massive blow for Reds boss Rafa Benitez, who is struggling for numbers at Anfield, especially up front.

After Michael Owen's departure and now Cisse's injury, the goal-scoring emphasis is firmly resting on Milan Baros' shoulders.

Benitez has just youngsters Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Neil Mellor in reserve, although the young Frenchman is also injured at present.

Luis Garcia and Harry Kewell can operate as a second striker but Cisse's injury will only heighten the need for Benitez to dip into the January transfer market for a new marksman.
