Kiraly reveals 'risky' strategy
Gabor Kiraly has admitted he set out to play a risky game against Birmingham.
Crystal Palace goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly has admitted he set out to play an aggressive and somewhat risky game against Birmingham last weekend. The Hungarian custodian caused Palace fans several heart-stopping moments during the 1-0 win at St Andrews as he repeatedly came out to try and dominate his area.
Although he did manage to produce a clean sheet, Kiraly was indebted to his defenders on more than one occasion.
However, he has no regrets about his performance and claims it was part of his gameplan.
"Before the game I decided that if I wanted to be effective then I had to risk sometimes," he told Nemzeti Sport.
"I was right because when I made a mistake my mates helped me, so I could finish the game with a clean sheet.
The Eagles shot-stopper also revealed the motivation behind his decision to wear his trademark grey tracksuit trousers at Birmingham.
The 28-year-old became a cult figure for the trousers during his time at Hertha Berlin, but insists he has no contractual obligation to sport them.
"I wore my grey trousers for the first time in England because I thought it was cold enough to do so," he continued.
"By the way, it's only up to me where and when I wear them, there's no connection between this and the sponsors or the club's permission."
