Gianfranco Zola has spoken of his delight at having been awarded an Order of the British Empire.The diminutive playmaker, who is still playing in Serie A with Cagliari, has been rewarded an OBE for his services to English football.
Zola was a massive favourite at Stamford Bridge during seven glorious years in West London and he has now spoken of his honour at receiving such recognition.
''I'm honoured, grateful,'' Zola told Corriere dello Sport. ''I'm happy especially for those who love me.
''I think in this moment, in addition to me, also my parents and my wife are honoured over this.
''This is an award that involves all life's aspects. It counts not only being champions but it counts being a man.
''When are awarded an award for playing good football you are happy but this is something more.
''This award gives me the sensation to be appreciated also like a man.''
