Preston fail with loan bid
Preston North End have failed to land a Premiership player on loan.
Preston North End chairman Derek Shaw has revealed their failure in landing a Premiership player on loan. The Lilywhites have endured a frustrating week after failing with their efforts to land Iain Hume from Tranmere Rovers and Scott Dobie from West Bromwich Albion - who has decided to join Championship rivals Millwall instead.
The Deepdale outfit have also failed to land Chelsea's Portuguese winger Filipe Oliveira (pictured) on loan.
Oliveira has been well down the Stamford Bridge pecking order after arriving from Porto in the summer of 2002, having had a trial with French club Rennes in October 2003.
Shaw admitted efforts were made to bring the winger to Lancashire, but The Blues were reluctant to let Oliveira leave temporarily.
"After consideration, Jose Mourinho didn't want to let any more of his squad go out until the transfer window opened in January," Shaw told Preston's official website.
Some good news for Preston has come from midfielder Dickson Etuhu, who has agreed to a three-year contract extension at the club.
The 22-year-old's current deal expires at the season's end and his new contract will keep him at Preston until the summer of 2008.
Meanwhile, striker Kelvin Langmead has ended his loan with League Two side Kidderminster Harriers.
