Donovan in Bayer talks

American striker Landon Donovan has travelled to discuss his future at Bayer Leverkusen.

Donovan, who is currently at Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes, is due to return to the BayArenA at the start of next year.

San Jose are hoping to find out if they can extend their co-sharing agreement and extend his stay with the Earthquakes.

Bayer will make a decision after the meeting as to whether or not they are recalling the talented striker to Germany.

MLS released a statement to clear up the reason for Donovan's trip to Germany.

"Landon's overseas trip to Germany is simply to begin the discussions regarding his future, as to which no decision has yet been made," read the statement.

"We have a strong relationship with Bayer Leverkusen and look forward to speaking to Landon and Leverkusen at the end of our season regarding his professional playing environment.

"Landon's wishes will be very important in those discussions and we will continue to explore all avenues to keep Landon in MLS for the long term."
