O's trial former Hammer

Leyton Orient have taken former West Ham midfielder Daryl McMahon on trial.

Leyton Orient boss Martin Ling has revealed he will take a further look at former West Ham United midfielder Daryl McMahon.

The O's boss ran the rule over the 22-year-old trialist in the club's reserves on Tuesday, as Orient's second string were beaten 2-1 by their Charlton Athletic counterparts.

McMahon arrived at Brisbane Road after a short spell at Port Vale this season following his release from The Hammers in the summer.

Ling's first impression of the young midfielder looks to have been favourable.

"He's a 22 year-old lad looking to get back down this way after having spent the last couple of months at Port Vale and an agent recommended him to me for this game - I'd like to have another look at him," Ling told Orient's official website.

Another player to receive a trial on Tuesday was former Reading striker Andre Fashanu, who is also looking for a new club after being at the end of last season by The Royals.

Meanwhile, talks have begun over a contract extensions for Ling and his assistant manager Ian Culverhouse.

Ling has led the East London outfit to fourth in the table so far this season after a disappointing campaign last term and the Orient boss revealed that talks have begun over new deals for himself and Culverhouse.

"Initial negotiations for new contracts for myself and Ian have gone on," Ling added.

"We're talking, but it's early and it's nowhere near finalised.

"This has been my club for eight-and-a-half years, so I want to stay here for the successful teams and be the manager that brings them to the club."
