Ajax linked with Nonda

Ajax are being linked with a move for Monaco striker Shabani Nonda.

Amsterdammers coach Ronald Koeman has made no secret of his desire to sign a powerful front man in January and has been linked with the likes of Jan Koller, Angelos Charisteas and Maciej Zurawski in recent weeks.

Borussia Dortmund forward Koller still appears to be Ajax's preferred choice, but Koeman is not putting all his eggs in one basket and has been linked with Nonda.

The Congo striker is feeling his way back to full fitness, having picked up a serious knee injury last term.

Nonda has yet to hit peak form and Monaco are assessing other options, with Fernando Morientes their object of desire, but he said in a recent interview that he had no intention of moving on in January.

However, with Monaco seeking money to finance a deal for Morientes, they could view an offer from Ajax as a sensible piece of business.

Nonda was one of Europe's most feared strikers prior to injury and if returning to top form, would be a shrewd signing for Ajax.
