Can Dennis become a menace?

Can Dennis Rommedahl finally prove his class to Charlton fans?

It has taken Dennis Rommedahl until December to announce himself on The Premiership, but can the Dane finally prove his class to Charlton fans?

Rommedahl arrived in England from PSV Eindhoven with top billing, as many felt the Danish flyer could add spark to a solid if unspectacular Charlton team.

However, his first four months in England were forgettable - as he failed to find any consistency and found himself on the bench.

Denmark coach Morten Olsen has suggested that the winger should consider his future in January, while Charlton chief Alan Curbishley countered by saying Rommedahl must wait for his chance.

An early injury to Jonatan Johansson handed Rommedahl a chance against Crystal Palace on Sunday and he did exactly what Curbishley urged by netting The Addicks' injury time winner.

The Dane's overall performance was not out of the top drawer, but his last-gasp finish certainly was - a fizzing low effort which gave Gabor Kiraly no chance - and it can only buoy his confidence.

Rommedahl is like any winger in that he thrives on confidence and this goal could come at the perfect time for Charlton, with a raft of games coming up over the festive period.

The Dane feels he is still likely to receive criticism, but if he can use the goal as a spur he could finally live up to the hype.

"It means a lot to me," Rommedahl told Sky Sports. "The ball fell to me, I took it inside and closed my eyes and blasted it at goal and thankfully it went in.

"It is always nice to get the first goal in the new club.

"There will still be criticism, but there will be good things and that is football."
