Atletico close on Jesper

Atletico Madrid are closing on the signing of Birmingham winger Jesper Gronkjaer.

Atletico Madrid are closing on the signing of unsettled Birmingham winger Jesper Gronkjaer.

Birmingham are willing to let Gronkjaer leave St Andrews just five months after signing him from Chelsea.

The Danish international has failed to hit the heights at Birmingham and Blues boss Steve Bruce has made him available for transfer.

Atletico are leading the chase for Gronkjaer's signature and reports emanating from Spain claim they have agreed a fee with Birmingham for the former Chelsea man.

The flying winger is also thought to have agreed personal terms and a three-year deal with Atletico with the move to be finalised when the transfer window reopens next month.

Meanwhile, three more arrests have been made following last month's allegations of racist abuse suffered by Blues striker Dwight Yorke at Blackburn Rovers.

Lancashire police said on Wednesday three men aged 19, 20 and 35 were charged on Tuesday with a racially-aggravated public order offence.

They have been bailed to appear at Blackburn magistrates court on Thursday.

Two men were arrested two weeks ago for alleged abuse aimed towards former Rovers star Yorke during the 3-3 draw between the sides at Ewood Park.
