Pander out of German squad

Schalke defender Christian Pander will miss Germany's forthcoming trip to Asia.

Schalke defender Christian Pander has joined Chelsea's Robert Huth on the treatment table and will miss Germany's forthcoming trip to Asia.

The 21 year-old left back, who was fancied to make his international debut on the tour, is suffering from a thigh problem.

He was forced to withdraw from Schalke's game with Freiburg at the weekend then his misery was further compounded when German FA doctors discovered a back problem too.

Pander's withdrawal heaps further problems upon beleaguered coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, who is suffering from a spate of injuries to his squad. Earlier this week, Chelsea's Huth was forced to withdraw.

Pander will be replaced by Werder Bremen's Christian Schulz. Klinsmann is expected to use the trip to Asia, where they will play Japan, South Korea and Thailand, as a chance to blood some of his younger players.
