City make sale pledge
Man City's John Wardle says he would be lynched if he sold Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Manchester City chairman John Wardle claims he would be lynched if he sanctioned Shaun Wright-Phillips' sale in January. The England international has sporadically been linked with an exit from The City of Manchester Stadium, with Arsenal purportedly his leading suitors.
Wright-Phillips has been City's best player this season and signed a new contract with the club at the start of the campaign.
City are determined to keep hold of the dashing midfielder and Wardle is not prepared to sacrifice the 23-year-old to ease the club's debts.
Wardle insists the club are not looking to offload Wright-Phillips during January's transfer window as he is a key part of City's future.
While a £20 million bid may prompt Wardle to raise his eyebrows, the City supremo acknowledged there have been no offers for the speedy ace.
"The only people that are asking about Shaun Wright-Phillips' transfer is the media," Wardle told Sky Sports News.
"As far as I'm concerned he's a Manchester City player and will remain a Manchester City player.
"He came from the Academy, he is the heart and soul of Manchester City. I think he's got Manchester City in his heart.
"We're not looking to do anything with Shaun Wright-Phillips. I think the fans would lynch us.
"There's always that kind of thing around (speculation). Okay, if it got to something really stupid we might have to look.
"But what we are not doing is looking and what we have also got to emphasise is that no one's come in for him."
