Magpies book Boro date

Notts County beat Swindon Town 2-0 in their FA Cup second round replay.

Notts County booked a lucrative third round tie against Middlesbrough, with a 2-0 home victory over Swindon Town in their FA Cup replay.

The League Two side were full value for their triumph over their League One opponents as Gavin Gordon netted both goals at Meadow Lane.

The hosts dominated much of the contest and were denied an opening goal on 14 minutes when Alan Reeves desperately hacked the ball off his own line.

The Magpies were again close on 24 minutes when Shaun Harrad's acrobatic overhead kick from the edge of the area crashed back off the post, with goalkeeper Rhys Evans well off his line.

On 31 minutes, the breakthrough deservedly came when Gordon cut in from the left hand side and his shot deflected wildly off a Swindon defender to leave Evans stranded.

A poor back-pass almost cost County their lead as Saul Deeney's clearance ricocheted off Sam Parkin while Gordon should have doubled the advantage before half time as Chris Palmer's cross hit him with the goal gaping.

Gordon did grab a second just a minute after the break as the striker headed in Tony Scully's cross to the far post.

Christian Roberts had a firm, low shot pushed out by Deeney but The Robins rarely looked likely to get back into the game.

To make matters worse, Swindon's Grant Smith was sent off three minutes from time for a rash challenge on David Pipe.
