Blades in Chinese link

Sheffield United may be considering a move for Chinese striker Hao Haidong.

Sheffield United look to have widened their striker search by considering a possible move for veteran Chinese international Hao Haidong.

The 34-year-old is reported to have opened talks with the Championship side regarding a move to Bramall Lane.

Chinese giants Dalian Shide are thought to have handed Hao the chance of playing in English football by agreeing a knockdown fee with The Blades as a thank you to the hit-man for his services to their club.

Recently, Hao had been in the role of player-coach with Dalian, despite remaining one of China's top players of recent years.

The veteran was instrumental in leading the Far East nation to the 2002 World Cup finals in Korea and Japan after helping Dalian to domestic league titles in 1997 and 1998.

However, Hao is also known to be a controversial figure in Chinese football, having received a one-year ban from the Asian Football Confederation for spitting at a referee during an Asian Cup Winners' Cup tie in 1999.

He redeemed himself by helping Dalian to the final of the Asian Club Championship in 2001.

The news comes after Blades boss Neil Warnock had confirmed their interest in bringing Hearts striker Mark de Vries to the South Yorkshire club.
