Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has been delighted with Julio Cesar's displays in the absence of Ricardo Gardner at left back. The former Real Madrid defender has been filling in for the Jamaican international recently and made his third appearance of the season against Manchester City.
Cesar kept danger man Shaun Wright-Phillips quiet in City's 1-0 win at The Reebok and is set for another stern test against Manchester United on Boxing Day.
"Cesar did the job I asked of him," explained Allardyce.
"He marked Wright-Phillips very well and, overall, we limited them to very few chances.
"We have not picked up a good result since he [Gardner] went out."
