Makel to leave Plymouth

Plymouth Argyle look set to lose another of their summer signings in Lee Makel.

Plymouth Argyle look set to lose another of their summer signings in Lee Makel.

The Pilgrims should see Stevie Crawford return to Scotland after a brief spell at Home Park next month and former Hearts and Livingston man Makel seems ready to follow him by returning north of the border.

Like Crawford, the 31-year-old has been unsettled since moving to the English Championship club in the summer, despite penning a two-year deal with Plymouth.

Several Scottish Premier League clubs are monitoring Makel's situation and the player admitted the amount of travelling involved with Plymouth has taken its toll.

"Bobby [Williamson] has said he won't stand in my way and, although everything has still to be rubber-stamped, I hope to return to Scotland," Makel told The Daily Record.

"My decision has nothing to do with the club or the city itself. The city's great, the club is up and coming and other players will come down here and have a really good time.

"However, my wife and I just want to be happy and neither of us are all that content at the moment.

"It's especially hard coping with the travelling. We sometimes travel seven or eight hours on a Friday night to get to where we're playing on a Saturday.

"We have to do the journey all the way home again and it takes it out of you mentally.

"I thought I'd be okay, but I didn't realise quite how much travelling was involved.

"It hasn't been the best career move for me. I was hoping it would turn out to be, but if everything comes off, I'm looking forward to returning to Scotland."
