Barton makes apology

Joey Barton has issued an apology for his behaviour at Man City's Xmas party.

Manchester City's Joey Barton has issued an apology for his behaviour at the club's Christmas party.

The City midfielder has apologised for the incident, which saw him poke a cigar into the face of team-mate Jamie Tandy.

The club immediately acted and fined Tandy a fortnight's wages for misconduct, and Barton six weeks' pay for gross misconduct - although two weeks of that have been suspended following his apology.

"I would like to apologise for my part in the incident which took place on Sunday evening," said Barton.

"I feel embarrassed about what I did and deeply regret it.

"I am grateful for the support of the club, our supporters and my family during this time."
