Karembeu primed for Nantes

Nantes have confirmed that they are in talks with Christian Karembeu.

Nantes have confirmed that they are in talks with former World Cup winner Christian Karembeu.

The 34-year-old is currently on the books of Servette in Switzerland, but is looking to leave due to the club's financial problems.

Servette have not paid their players for the past two months and their very survival is currently under threat.

As a result a number of their players could well move on, and Karembeu - despite his age - is still one of their most valuable assets.

The ex-Middlesbrough man has been linked with Bastia, but it appears that a return to former club Nantes could now be on the cards.

The former France international was at Nantes' game with Sochaux last Sunday, and it is understood he will be offered an initial six-month deal by the Ligue 1 club.

Also set to join Les Canaris during the January transfer window is former West Ham midfielder Laurent Courtois.

The 26-year-old currently plies his trade for Istres but appears likely to be heading for La Beaujoire-Louis-Fonteneau.
