L'OM warn Lizarazu
Marseille full back Bixente Lizarazu has been warned his reputation counts for nothing.
Marseille full back Bixente Lizarazu has been warned his reputation counts for nothing at Stade Velodrome.Lizarazu only joined l'OM in the summer on a free transfer from Bayern Munich but has been unsettled in recent weeks.
The 35-year-old has struggled to establish himself in the eyes of new coach Philippe Troussier and refused to be on the substitutes' bench against Auxerre earlier this month.
He has been tipped to hang up his boots due to his current situation and Marseille general manager Pape Diouf admits it is up to Lizarazu to salvage his career on the South Coast.
"We have respect for his entire career," said Diouf.
"But when you are at l'OM, you are at l'OM. It is only up to him to be a first team member."
Diouf also confirmed that Benoit Pedretti and Peguy Luyindula will not be leaving the club in the New Year, while Toulouse target Laurent Batlles is the only player to demand an exit from Marseille.
He added: "For coach Philippe Troussier, to have at his disposal players like Pedretti and Luyindula is a great opportunity. He rejected any idea of a departure for them.
"Until now, only Laurent Batlles has asked us to leave. He had a proposition from Toulouse, a four-and-a-half year contract, with a possibility to stay at the end of his career. We are studying that departure.
"The departures of Brahim Hemdani and Johnny Ecker were also mentioned. But I will keep true to what they told me. They want to stay until the end of the season."
