City player facing action

Man City have made a statement regarding an alleged incident on Sunday.

Manchester City have released a statement regarding an alleged incident involving midfielder Joey Barton.

The 22-year-old could be facing disciplinary action following an alleged altercation with one of the club's youth players at the team's Christmas party in a Manchester nightclub.

According to the Daily Mirror, Barton is thought to have poked the eye of team-mate James Tandy, 18, with a lit cigar during the party on Sunday.

The alleged incident reportedly caused a melee between Barton and friends of the young player, with the midfielder thought to have been hit over the head with a bottle in the aftermath.

The incident, however, was not reported to police and both players were back in training on Monday.

City's communications chief Paul Tyrrell has now revealed that the club have completed an internal investigation into the matter.

"An immediate investigation led by deputy chairman, Bryan Bodek, has been completed and the matter is being dealt with internally," Tyrrell told the club's official website.

"A disciplinary process will be conducted appropriately and promptly."
