Real to block Morientes move
Real Madrid now appear likely to block any move from Liverpool for Fernando Morientes.
Real Madrid boss Wanderley Luxemburgo has revealed he is likely to block any move from Liverpool for Fernando Morientes. The striker is known to be a top priority for Reds boss Rafa Benitez during the transfer window, and has become disillusioned with his lack of action at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Morientes has made positive noises about a proposed move to Anfield, but a switch now looks increasingly difficult as Luxemburgo does not want the Spain international to leave.
The Brazilian coach has already stated he wants around ten to 15 days to assess and shape his squad, but insists selling Morientes to Liverpool would be like Real shooting themselves in the foot.
"I don't like reinforcing the rivals," he stated. "Morientes joining Liverpool will be like helping an enemy.
"I want to speak with Morientes, to know what he is thinking.
"Later I will meet the club and we will decide."
Despite Luxemburgo's pledge, if he cannot guarantee Morientes regular action the 28-year-old could still push for a move from the Spanish capital with Raul, Ronaldo and Michael Owen all competing for a striking berth at the club.
