Sullivan slams Sav 'sob story'
Birmingham supremo David Sullivan has slammed Robbie Savage.
Birmingham supremo David Sullivan has slammed Robbie Savage for using a 'sob story' to try to engineer a move to Blackburn.Savage, who Sullivan rates as his second favourite Birmingham player ever, has made it clear that he is looking for a move to Blackburn - to the dismay of the club co-owner.
"Robbie is second only to Christophe Dugarry in my all-time list of favourite Birmingham City players and I will never forget his contribution over the last two-and-a-half years," said Sullivan.
"But now I find his attitude sickening and depressing.
"He signed a new four year contract and then, when offered more money by a rival club, thought he could ignore it and walk away on the cheap.
"But since I've been here there has never been a player who has left us on his terms. It has always been on our terms - and always will be.
"What Robbie ought to know is that the more he moans, the more stories we see and hear, the more determined it makes us as a club.
"We've heard all the sob stories about Robbie moving nearer to home for the sake of his family but basically this is not the real issue.
"The bottom line is that he is an adult who signed a contract and should honour it.
"We all have problems in life that we have to overcome. Why he thinks he is such a different case, I don't know.
"This club is not a voluntary organisation. You just can't turn up and think you can do what you please."
Steve Bruce also believes that money is a big factor in Savage's decision - admitting he is hurt by the midfielder's attitude.
"I will see what is best for the club but I am not going to accept a bid just to facilitate one player," said Bruce.
"I have said many times that I don't want Robbie Savage to leave and he will only go if the price is right. That goes for any player here.
"I sat Robbie down a few days ago and said that if it is to do with his family then the club are willing to provide a chauffeur and he could move closer to Wrexham.
"I can even let him have a day off. But I don't believe that it is just about family. I believe that he has had a better offer and unfortunately money comes into play.
"That hurts me because the club gave him a four-year contract at 30 years of age three-and-a-half months ago.
"That shows how much we appreciate him. I cannot be any fairer than that. Because someone has come up with a better offer I think it has turned the player's head.
"But I am determined that I will not be bullied or rail-roaded.
"I was offered a few more quid in the summer (to go to Newcastle). But I decided to honour the people who gave me the new contract. Sometimes you have got to play fair."
