Giannichedda offered new deal

Giuliano Giannichedda has been offered a new deal by Lazio.

Lazio director of sports Gabriele Martino has told skysports.com that Giuliano Giannichedda has been offered a new deal.

Giannichedda has been a pivotal figure for Lazio recently, and the Roman club are keen to tie the player to a longer term deal, with his current contract expiring in the summer.

The versatile star has dropped into an unfamiliar central defensive role of late, and his performances have attracted rumours of interest from Juventus.

"There will be a first meeting later this week," Martino told skysports.com, "and I am quite confident we will find an agreement.

"I think Giannichedda owes a lot to our club and his intention is to stay.

"That makes us happy, because we want to keep our best players - despite interest from other clubs."

Martino confirmed that Fabio Liverani had handed in a transfer request, but is hopeful that the arrival of new coach Giuseppe Papadopulo will convince him to stay.

"Liverani had some problems before the end of 2004 and was pondering a move away," added Martino.

"I hope he will reconsider his situation, as things have changed."
