Bradley: A star in his own Wright

Manchester City's Bradley Wright-Philips wants to make a name for himself.

Bradley, 19, scored his first senior goal against Middlesbrough in November after a prolific record in the City youth and reserve sides.

After spending so long in the shadows of his father, Arsenal legend Ian Wright, the youngster will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of Shaun, and establish himself in the City first team this year.

With Nicolas Anelka seemingly departing in January, Kevin Keegan may well call on the exciting striker, and Bradley himself is looking to become a star in his own right at The City of Manchester Stadium.

"When I'm out with Shaun people will come up to him for five minutes, sometimes longer, and as they are leaving they'll say: 'Oh you must be, erm, Bradley'," he told the Guardian.

"I don't mind at all. In fact we have a laugh about it, but ever since I was little I've never really had my own identity.

"People used to describe me as 'Ian Wright's son' and in the last couple of years I've become 'Shaun Wright-Phillips' brother'.

"Like I said it doesn't bother me, but I want to make a name for myself now, it's time."

He also praised Shaun, four years his senior, for his selfless play and determination to help his sibling succeed.

"He's an inspiration for me and he looks out for me as well.

"If I make a bad pass or miss a chance he will run by and tell me to keep my head up.

"Maybe one day he will go mad at me but that day hasn't come yet.

"When I made my debut, against Barnsley in the Carling Cup, he went through on goal but cut the ball back to me rather than shoot himself.

"He wanted me to score so badly but I got too excited and lashed it over the bar, a sitter, but it tells you about Shaun."

If Anelka departs as expected, then Wright-Phillips will find himself third choice striker behind Jonathan Macken and Robbie Fowler, and may have adequate chances to prove himself as a regular in the first team in 2005.
