Alsop banned by FA

Former Oxford United striker Julian Alsop has been banned by The FA.

Former Oxford United striker Julian Alsop has been banned by The Football Association for an incident back in October.

The 31-year-old, who is currently playing for Conference club Forest Green Rovers, has been suspended until May 31 following an FA disciplinary hearing last Thursday, with the ban set to start place on January 27.

The tall hit-man was sacked by The U's following the alleged incident at Oxford's training ground, with Alsop quickly moving to League Two rivals Northampton Town.

Alsop made 10 appearances for The Cobblers before moving to the Gloucestershire-based non-leaguers late last month.

Forest Green chairman Trevor Horsley told the club's official website that Alsop's contract will be reviewed following the news of his ban.

"We discussed the incident with Julian when we negotiated to bring him to the club and he advised us at the time that he had been reported to The FA," Horsley said.

"It was agreed that his contract would be reviewed in the light of any FA hearing.

"Julian has 14 days in which to appeal and any decision on his future at Forest Green Rovers will be made either after this period, or after his appeal is heard.

"In the meantime, he remains a member of our playing squad and will continue to train with us as normal."
