Plymouth play down reports

Plymouth Argyle have played down speculation regarding two of their players.

Plymouth Argyle chairman Paul Stapleton has played down speculation regarding Mathias Doumbe and Romain Larrieu.

The Home Park chief dismissed weekend reports that Premiership side Everton had made a £750,000 offer for centre back Doumbe.

Stapleton also rejected claims that Manchester City had expressed an interest in signing Pilgrims goalkeeper Larrieu (pictured) as cover for number one David James.

"I have been told about the speculation and that's what it is - just speculation," Stapleton told the Plymouth Evening Herald.

"We have not heard anything from anybody. That's the truth."

Plymouth, meanwhile, have handed a trial to teenage African midfielder Mustafa Jarju.

The 18-year-old Gambian travelled with the Pilgrims squad to watch them fall to a 1-0 defeat at fellow Championship strugglers Gillingham on Saturday.
