Ostlund: Gullit is fantastic
Alexander Ostlund is delighted after signing for Ruud Gullit's Feyenoord.
Alexander Ostlund has expressed his delight after signing a four-and-a-half year deal with Feyenoord.Boss Ruud Gullit was impressed with the right back in the Euro 2004 quarter final as he dealt admirably with Arjen Robben, and the new signing described how he is relishing the chance to work under the Dutch legend.
Ostlund's arrival signals the end of Gullit's long campaign to bring another defender to De Kuip, and the Swedish international will now replace Song Chong-gug who departed this week.
"He [Gullit] says he has been looking for a player who is exactly my type. It will be great fun to have him as coach," Ostlund told Sportbladet.
"A coach who has been a world class player can surely teach me tremendously much.
"He has studied me since the European Championships."
The stopper recognised the fact that Feyenoord have been shipping goals all season, and as such they are 11 points off the pace in De Eredivisie.
Ostlund joined the fourth placed side from Swedish outfit Hammarby, and was pleased that his former club were granted adequate financial compensation for his services.
"It's possible that Gullit wants to field me straight away, but we will see. What I understand is that the side has played well offensively, but conceded too many goals.
"I am feeling truly grateful for how Hammarby signed me, gave me good training and let me be who I am.
"Therefore it feels tremendously good that they get some money for me."
