Shearer's Bellamy warning

Alan Shearer has told Craig Bellamy that he must bow to Graeme Souness' wishes.

Alan Shearer has warned Craig Bellamy that he must bow to Newcastle manager Graeme Souness' wishes if he is to have a future at St James' Park.

Bellamy was controversially omitted from the squad to face Arsenal on Sunday, with Souness saying the player claimed he was injured after being informed he would be playing on the wing.

Bellamy has denied ever saying he was injured, but has admitted he is frustrated at being asked to play as a winger.

The source of the Welsh firebrand's frustration is believed to centre on the fact that Newcastle are being linked with strikers, Yakubu Aiyegbeni among them, while he is not getting the chance to show he is the Premier forward at the club.

The mood on Tyneside is not good and this latest spat is sure to increase unrest, but club captain and Magpies talisman Shearer feels Bellamy needs to toe the line.

"Craig declared himself injured on Friday dinner time and then was fit on Saturday morning," Shearer told The Journal.

"The manager - like everyone at Newcastle United - only wants players who want to play for the club, whether it's in the position they want to play in or not.

"We all want to go in the same direction, we all want success for Newcastle United, and if anyone doesn't want that, the manager will replace them with other players."

Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd has been forced to act as mediator in this latest row and he is sure to want a swift resolution, either way, with just a week remaining before the transfer window slams shut for the season.
