Lincoln extends Schalke spell

Schalke have handed playmaker Lincoln a one-year contract extension.

Schalke have handed playmaker Lincoln a one-year contract extension which ties the gifted Brazilian to the club until 2008.

The 25-year-old's deal was not due to expire before 2007 but the recent agreement underlines how important the former Kaiserslautern star is for Ralf Rangnick's in-form team.

"I feel very well here and if the club likes, I would stay another ten years," said Lincoln, who only joined the Royal Blues last summer.

"I would like to pay back the faith Schalke had in me by helping the club to bring home some silverware."

Lincoln's playmaking skills played a vital role in helping the Arena AufSchalke outfit in challenging Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich for the German title, while the club are also still in contention for both the German and the Uefa Cups.

Signing the highly talented but injury-prone Brazilian last summer seemed to be a risk but general manager Rudi Assauer stressed that he turned into a big fan of the former Atletico Mineiro ace.

"It was a bit risky to sign him but it was a well-calculated risk," said Assauer, who is keen to fulfil the high expectations of the huge S04 following by handing the club their first league title since 1958.

"Now we believe that he is able to give us plenty of joy and success. He just fits in perfectly."
