Bayer ready to let Jones go
Former German Under-21 striker Jermaine Jones is free to leave Bayer Leverkusen.
Former German Under-21 striker Jermaine Jones is free to leave Bayer Leverkusen within the next six months after failing to settle at the BayArena. The 23-year-old joined Klaus Augenthaler's team in the summer from Second Division side Eintracht Frankfurt with high expectations.
But he has only made five Bundesliga appearances and has mainly been used as a substitute.
Jones, who was notorious for his controversial behaviour at Frankfurt, has already held talks with Augenthaler and learned that Dimitar Berbatov, Andrej Voronin, Franca, Paul Freier and even the recovered youngster Clemens Fritz are all above him in the pecking order.
"He has caused no trouble at all and behaves like a true professional," declared managing director Michael Reschke.
He confirmed that Bayer would not require a transfer fee if the youngster finds a new club either during the winter transfer window or next summer.
