Van Hintum to retire

Marc van Hintum has confirmed that he will retire at the end of the season.

Marc van Hintum has confirmed that he will call time on his career at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old defender has been with RKC Waalwijk for the past two seasons, his second spell with the club, and they were keen to hand him a further 12 months, but he has opted to hang up his boots.

"It is nice to stop at a stage in your career when the club still wants you, rather than the other way round," he told Voetbal International.

Van Hintum has played 477 games during a career which kicked off at Helmond Sport in 1987.

The left back had distinguished spells with RKC Waalwijk, Willem II and Hannover, but many believe he had his best times with Vitesse Arnhem in the late 1990s.
