Candela nears Bolton deal
Vincent Candela is closing on a move to Bolton, after cancelling his Roma contract.
Vincent Candela is reported to have cancelled his contract with Roma as he closes in on a move to Bolton Wanderers. The former France international is believed to have annulled the remaining six months on his deal with Roma to facilitate a switch to The Premiership.
The full back has become frustrated at his lack of opportunities at Roma this season and is primed to leave the Eternal City.
England appears to be his preferred choice and he visited Bolton on Friday to discuss a contract and view the club's facilities.
Bolton's Premiership rivals Southampton were also believed to be interested but a move to The Reebok Stadium is in the pipeline.
Candela is understood to have agreed upon a deal with The Trotters until the end of the season, although one of his agents, Stephane Canard, confirmed a definite decision has not been made.
"We have to think about everything before making a choice, nothing is certain yet," Canard told L'Equipe.
Meanwhile, Candela could be joined at The Reebok Stadium by his compatriot Philippe Christanval who has endured an unhappy campaign at Marseille.
Celtic, Southampton and Real Zaragoza have all been linked with the defender but have opted not to follow up their interest.
Bolton have now been mooted as admirers and could arrange a deal to sign Christanval on loan, with an option for a permanent transfer.
