Savage: Bellamy too honest

Robbie Savage insists Craig Bellamy has suffered for being 'too honest' and that he would be pleased to play with him at Blackburn Rovers.

Savage, 30, recently moved to Blackburn from Birmingham City, where he turned from hero to villain in his final days at St Andrews.

The Wales international sympathises with Bellamy, believing that they both have been strongly criticised for being truthful.

"Like me, Craig is an honest lad, he sticks up for himself and he says what he thinks which, nowadays, as I have discovered to my cost, gets you into trouble," he told the Daily Post.

"Newspaper speculation is that Blackburn might be interested in bringing Craig to Ewood Park and I would be delighted if that were to come about.

"No matter what people say about him, he is a world-class player who would grace any team in The Premiership and everyone in the game knows what he is capable of when he is fit and in top form."

As this month's transfer window nears its close, Hughes may need to act swiftly, if he plans on including any new names like Bellamy.

The Wales striker has also be linked with a loan move to his former club Norwich City, however, Championship side Stoke City have denied making an offer.

With Saturday's FA Cup fourth round clash with Colchester United looming, Hughes must be thinking that Rovers have a good opportunity to progress.

However, compliancy should be avoided following their Carling Cup second round defeat to League One side Bournemouth.
