Rovers star cleared
Bristol Rovers striker Junior Agogo has been cleared of attempted rape in court.
Bristol Rovers striker Junior Agogo has been cleared of attempted rape at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday. The 25-year-old was accused of attempting to rape a 16-year-old waitress at a hotel in Doncaster in May last year.
Rovers were staying at the hotel on the eve of a league game against Hull, and the incident was alleged to have taken place in the room Agogo was sharing with team-mate Lee Thorpe.
However, a jury of six men and six women took two hours of deliberation to clear the player of the charge following a four-day trial.
The player's agent Saif Rubie insisted his client was now looking to focus purely on football, and revealed he was now expecting renewed transfer interest in the player following the 'not guilty' verdict.
"This had been hanging over Junior for a long time, and he now wants to concentrate on getting on with his career," Rubie told skysports.com.
"A number of Championship clubs have shown an interest in Junior and I am expecting renewed interest given that his future has been resolved.
"Junior wants to prove he is capable of playing at a very high level, and this will be a fresh start for him."
Agogo - who will be included in Rovers' squad for this weekend's clash with Yeovil - has enjoyed an impressive season for Rovers, and has 14 goals to his name thus far.
