Drogba has no French regrets
Didier Drogba has no regrets about rejecting the chance to represent France.
Didier Drogba has insisted he has no regrets about rejecting the chance to represent France. The Chelsea striker pledged his international allegiance to the country of his birth, Ivory Coast, and he has no doubts he made the right decision.
"No, I have no regrets [about not playing for France]," Drogba told L'est Republicain.
"I arrived in France at the age of five. I was always a fan of the team of Platini at the time of 1986 World Cup.
"But I am proud to play for Ivory Coast and to have been born in Abidjan.
"The choice of Ivory Coast always seemed natural."
Drogba also refused to consider the idea of a partnership with Thierry Henry, if he had opted to play for France.
"I am not sure [of partnering Henry], I would have found myself in competition with the likes of [David] Trezeguet," added Drogba.
Drogba is trying to help his country reach the 2006 World Cup for the first time and he is not jealous of the success achieved by France in the last few years.
"Our objective for the moment is to go to the 2006 World Cup. Let us never forget that our country have never took part in the final phase of a World Cup."
