Farina urges Kewell caution
Australia coach Frank Farina believes that Liverpool should not risk Harry Kewell.
Australia coach Frank Farina believes that Liverpool are taking a risk in preparing to use Harry Kewell in the UEFA Champions League this week. The winger has only just returned from a groin injury which has kept him on the sidelines since December, and may make his return against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.
Liverpool are short of attacking options, with Florent Sinama-Pongolle ruled out and Fernando Morientes cup tied, and Rafa Benitez looks set to call on the ex-Leeds man.
However Farina is concerned that the 26-year-old could aggravate the knock, and urged caution in using the injury-prone Australia international.
"I'd rather Harry had the surgery if that's what is needed, but there are club pressures on Harry and he has to do what's right for him," said Farina.
"Harry's got problems and has been living with the injury long enough to know if it doesn't go away this time he seriously needs to do something about it."
With Liverpool desperate to progress in the prestigious competition, Benitez may be prepared to risk Kewell, who only made his reserve comeback last week.
