Hargreaves praises Wenger

Owen Hargreaves has voiced his admiration for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash between the two sides, Bayern Munich's Owen Hargreaves has praised Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

The England international is preparing to take on The Gunners at the Olympia Stadion on Tuesday, and described how Wenger would be an ideal boss to work under.

Canadian-born Hargreaves has never disguised his admiration for English football, and has come close to a transfer to Liverpool in the past.

The European matches against the English champions would seem to be an ideal showcase for the 24-year-old's talents, and the Bayern man admitted he has his heart set on a move to The Premiership at some point in the future.

"I think Wenger would be a fantastic manager to play for, all the players that I know who have played for him are big fans of his," Hargreaves told the Independent.

"If you look at the team he has built there it doesn't seem that those players want to leave because of Wenger and I think that speaks for itself.

"His players are loyal to him and he protects his players. He has done that very well in the past and the success he has brought to the team has been remarkable.

"At the moment I'm enjoying my football here, but football changes quickly.

"I am sure [a move] will happen one day, though, because it's my decision, isn't it?"

For now, of course, Hargreaves is focusing on overcoming Wenger's side in the knockout round of the Champions League, and is confident of finding weaknesses in the side that went unbeaten in the league last term.

Although the midfielder was quick to praise the attacking nous of Arsenal, he also voiced doubt over their defensive stability.

With strikers of the class of Roy Makaay at the helm, Hargreaves is hoping that Bayern can exploit this apparent weak spot.

"I've tried to watch Arsenal as much as possible and going forward I think they are one of the best of the teams in Europe.

"They play very attractive football, everybody gets involved. I think the problems they have had have been in the back and with the goalkeeper.

"Although they have fantastic individual players, I don't think they are authoritative as they are up front.

"Up front they have had the same players for three or four years. Everyone knows where they are going.

"At the back when you change things around it is hard to find consistency."
