Nery move in doubt
Gustavo Nery does not now appear to be on his way to Corinthians.
Werder Bremen left back Gustavo Nery appears not to be on his way to Corinthians, as previously anticipated. The generous financial support of investor group MSI means that Corinthians have a transfer budget unmatched by any other South American team and they had been expected to land Nery on Friday.
However, the move has now been thrown into doubt because Werder did not receive the bank guarantee they expected.
Agent Ely Coimbra Filho has confirmed the reasons behind the delay, but also revealed that Nery is still keen on the move.
He said: ''According to the information that I have, Werder Bremen didn't receive any bank guarantee from MSI, so they didn't let Gustavo end his contract with them.
''He will not be able to leave Germany to go to Corinthians.
"Gustavo had everything ready to travel to Brazil and be received on Friday in Sao Paulo, but now he is very upset and nervous about the situation.''
Whilst Nery could be on the move from Werder, another South American could be arriving in the form of Universidad Catolica defender Cristian Alvarez.
''I know that people from Germany have come to Chile to watch me play for UC and the national team,'' confirmed Alvarez.
''But, I can't say anything because I haven't been told of an official offer.''
Officials at Universidad Catolica are keen to sell in the summer as Alvarez's contract expires in December - when he will be able to leave the club on a free transfer.
