Ruddy happy with move
John Ruddy has told skysports.com of his joy at earning a move to Everton.
Up-and-coming goalkeeper John Ruddy admits he had no hesitation in accepting the chance to join Everton. The teenager will move to Goodison Park in the summer after an undisclosed offer met his current club Cambridge United's approval.
Ruddy has agreed a four-year deal with The Toffees and is relishing the opportunity to link up with David Moyes' side.
The 18-year-old had trained with boyhood heroes Manchester United in the autumn but had no qualms in accepting the offer from their Premiership rivals.
"If you look where they are in the league, that says it all," Ruddy told skysports.com. "I have been around the club, it's a great club and looks good.
"Since I have been up there [at Old Trafford], they haven't said anything back.
"Instead of waiting around to see what happens, Everton have come in with a good offer and I am more than happy to play for a good club like Everton.
"You're not going to get these sort of offers every day so it's nice to hear when they did come in for me."
The transfer only arose during the past seven days as Everton spent last week negotiating with the struggling U's regarding a transfer fee.
Ruddy had been aware that The Toffees had been watching his progress but admits he is surprised at how quickly the deal has been concluded.
He added: "I am very pleased. It's just in the last week that I found out about it.
"I knew they had been to a couple of matches but I didn't think anything would come of it but they put the money on the table and Cambridge accepted."
The youngster only made his Cambridge debut at the end of last season and has been taken aback by how swiftly he has made the jump from League Two to The Premiership.
"I was very surprised, especially with the position Cambridge are in at the minute," he continued.
"It does help being so young and playing regular first team football in the spotlight all depends on how you can handle the pressure."
You can read more about Ruddy later this week when the goalkeeper features as our Young Gun in our Ezine, which is launched this week.
