Waterreus' City dig

Ronald Waterreus has accused Manchester City of lacking ambition.

Rangers goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus has accused Manchester City of lacking ambition.

The Dutchman joined City in the summer as cover for David James, but headed out of Eastlands for Ibrox recently after Rangers lost Stefan Klos for the remainder of the season.

Waterreus made himself an instant hero in the blue half of Glasgow when making a number of key saves in the win over Old Firm rivals Celtic, and he has a real chance of adding an SPL title to the awards he won with PSV Eindhoven.

The 34-year-old claims PSV have a winning mentality, as do Rangers, but believes that City are badly lacking in ambition.

"I played for trophies in Holland and won a few along the way," he told Rangers News.

"Manchester City is a big club, but it doesn't play for trophies. When you play for a club like City, you don't play for anything. If you draw, everyone is happy.

"If Rangers draw, it is seen as a crisis. It was the same when I played at PSV.

"That gives you a rush and you want to experience that. That's the reason you play football - to experience that pressure."
