Vale look to strengthen

Port Vale manager Martin Foyle may attempt to sign a striker.

Port Vale manager Martin Foyle may attempt to sign a striker prior to the transfer deadline.

Foyle had agreed a deal with Hull to sign Delroy Facey last week, but the striker opted to return to his home town club Huddersfield.

The Valiants' search for a new striker has become less urgent after youth team striker Dave Hibbert marked his full league debut with two goals against league leaders Luton.

Port Vale's next fixture is against Oldham and striker Nathan Lowndes fitness is doubtful with a hamstring injury.

"The Luton win has taken some of the pressure off, but I am aware of the fact the transfer deadline is close and also that we have had around six players out injured most weeks," said Foyle.

"I don't want to sound gloomy, but that could happen again.

"It would be a hard decision to bring a player in - A big part of my decision will depend on how Nathan Lowndes comes through training."
