Bolton target Swiss keeper

Bolton are tipped to sign Switzerland international Sebastien Roth in the summer.

Bolton Wanderers are tipped to sign Switzerland international Sebastien Roth in the summer.

The goalkeeper has been playing for Servette but the Swiss club have been made bankrupt, enabling the 26-year-old to become a free agent.

Roth has agreed a deal to join French Second Division outfit Lorient until the end of the season.

He is waiting for that transfer to be ratified, due to it being outside the transfer window, but only seems to be heading to France for a brief sojourn.

Reports suggest the shot-stopper will then head to The Reebok Stadium in the summer to join Sam Allardyce's side.

The Trotters boss currently only has the veteran keeper Kevin Poole as back-up to number one Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Come the end of the season there is also likely to be renewed speculation that Finnish ace Jaaskelainen could be pursued by one of The Premiership's bigger clubs, with both Arsenal and Manchester United in the market for a keeper.

Roth could prove an ideal acquisition for Bolton, given his status as a free agent, and he also has experience at international level.

He was a member of Switzerland's Euro 2004 squad after receiving a late call-up and could be due to continue his career in The Premiership after reportedly catching Bolton's eye.
