Peterborough United veteran Andy Legg is facing a career-threatening operation to remove a tumour from his neck.The 38-year-old will go under the knife later this month to have the tumour removed after discovering six months ago that it grew back, with doctors warning the defender there is a 50-50 chance it is cancerous.
The former Cardiff City player had a similar tumour removed four years ago, but kept the news that it may have been malignant private.
Posh boss Barry Fry praised the Welshman's loyalty to playing with the League One side, despite having known of his condition since that start of the season.
"He has been incredibly brave and loyal to this football club," Fry told the club's official website.
"The operation is career threatening, he wants to continue playing football and while it is mathematically possible for this club to avoid relegation, he will give it his best shot."
Meanwhile, Peterborough's quest to avoid relegation having dealt a further injury blow with the news that wingers Adam Newton and David Farrell are out for up to a month with ankle injuries.
