Ponk on the move

Utrecht keeper Rene Ponk will head for pastures new in the summer.

Rene Ponk will head for pastures new in the summer after it was confirmed that Utrecht will not be offering the keeper a new deal.

The 33-year-old keeper is in the final year of his contract and doubts had been raised over his future at the club.

Coach Foeke Booy is keen on giving youth a chance and will allow Joost Terol and Michel Vorm to fight for the goalkeeper's jersey, which leaves Ponk surplus to requirements.

Ponk has a wealth of experience and is likely have a number of offers to consider in the summer.

Utrecht defender Alje Schut is unlikely to play again this term after suffering a knee injury against RKC Waalwijk on Saturday.

The club fear that Schut has suffered serious knee ligament damage and there are reports that he will be sidelined for nine months.
