Bilbao exit looms for Ezquerro

Striker Santiago Ezquerro looks set to quit Athletic Bilbao in the summer.

Santiago Ezquerro looks set to quit Athletic Bilbao in the summer having rejected the club's latest contract offer.

The striker has been in negotiations for some months with the Basque outfit as his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Bilbao have been in the process of extending the contracts of a number of first-team players, and recently tied defender Luis Prieto to a new deal.

However, Ismael Urzaiz, Javi Gonzalez and Ander Murillo - as well as Ezquerro - have yet to commit their futures to the club, and the recent revelation by manager Ernesto Valverde, that he is leaving at the end of the season, could now spark something of an exodus.

Ezquerro has reportedly rejected a new four-year deal from Athletic and will now consider the offers he has already received from other Primera clubs.

The 27-year-old hit-man has spent the last seven years at Estadio San Mames and has enjoyed an excellent campaign with 16 goals to his name.

However, he seems set for a new challenge and there will be no shortage of suitors given the fact he will move on a free transfer.
